Garry Caldbeck is the owner of SystemWorks. He has over 38 years experience in the mechanical and control industry. Garry attended Grandview College and Des Moines Area Community College where he received an A.A. Degree in HVAC. He holds master licenses issued by the State of Iowa in the four disciplines of HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing and Hydronics. Garry is also a Certified Commissioning Supervisor and a Certified Testing, Adjusting & Balancing Supervisor through the Testing, Adjusting and Balancing Bureau.

Scott Talbot has over 21 years experience in the mechanical and control industry. He attended Indian Hills Community College where he received an A.A.S. Degree. He successfully completed the application and testing process administered by the Building Commissioning Association to become a Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP). Scott is also a LEED AP BD+C and a Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP). He has proven management, organizational and communication skills and has led many successful commissioning projects. Scott’s primary focus has been LEED certified projects, retro-commissioning, and troubleshooting mechanical and control systems in complex buildings.

Rick has over 21 years experience in the mechanical and control industry. He successfully completed the application and testing process administered by the Building Commissioning Association to become a Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP). Rick has obtained his LEED AP BD+C credential through the U.S. Green Building Council. He is also a Certified Commissioning Supervisor and a Certified Testing, Adjusting & Balancing Supervisor through the Testing, Adjusting and Balancing Bureau. Rick brings a wealth of knowledge in commissioning, retro-commissioning, building automation systems and MEP systems for office buildings, universities, laboratories, and health care facilities.

Andrew Bennett

Mechanical Engineer

Andrew graduated from the University of Iowa with his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on Energy Systems and the Environment. Andrew works on both Commissioning and Retro-Commissioning projects, performing design reviews, site visits, and functional testing, trend data analysis, and eQuest energy modeling. He also helps clients achieve LEED Certification for Existing Buildings.

Mr. Sumpter has over 23 years experience in the mechanical and control industry. He attended United Electronics Institute where he received an A.A.S. Degree in Electronics Technology. His knowledge of building control systems and mechanical systems is his expertise. Mr. Sumpter fosters ongoing working relationships with facility managers, engineers, project managers, and contractors. Dan is currently managing our retro-commissioning / energy reduction projects.

Mr. Crouse has over 22 years of experience in the controls and HVAC industry. His experience comes from control system service, programming and function testing on a very large scale. Jordon prepares commissioning documentation, writes and performs function testing to verify installed sequences and programming meet design requirements.

Brian Van Houten

Commissioning Technician / TAB Technician

Mr. Van Houten has over 15 years experience in the plumbing industry. He is a journeyman plumber licensed by the State of Iowa. His specialties include medical gas installation and plumbing inspection. Mr. Van Houten assists in the commissioning process by performing plumbing and piping design reviews, submittal reviews, on site functional performance testing, and testing, adjusting and balancing of air and hydronic systems.

John Vande Kamp

Mr. Vande Kamp has over 15 years experience in the HVAC industry. He holds a journeyman HVAC license issued by the State of Iowa. John currently performs air and hydronic system testing as needed for our commissioning and facility analysis work. He is experienced with Phoenix lab control systems, preparation of commissioning plans, constructions checklists, functional performance tests, and site visit reports. John is a Testing, Adjusting and Balancing Bureau Certified TAB Technician.

Matt Minnick

Matt Minnick

Mechanical Engineer

Matt graduated from Iowa State University with his BS in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on HVAC Systems. Matt's primary focus at SystemWorks is commissioning new construction and renovation projects under the IECC 2012 and LEED requirements. Matt is currently working on the Des Moines City Hall Renovation, Baker Group's Corporate Woods Office, several projects for Fort Dodge Community School District, Krause Gateway Center, along with several others projects. Matt is responsible for commissioning SystemWorks' and one of Iowa's first LEED v.4 projects, Miron Construction Co., Inc. - Cedar Rapids Office.

Greg Hemmen

Greg Hemmen

Commissioning Agent

Mr. Hemmen brings over 24 years of experience in the construction industry to our Commissioning Team. Greg conducts quality assurance site visits and inspections on new construction and renovation projects. He inspects the work of multiple contractors for compliance with the specifications, drawings and code requirements and ensures the correction of deficiencies. As a Field Project Manager, Greg used a CAD-based project management technique to verify design, review shop drawings, procure job materials, and incorporate design changes in real time. Greg received his BS in Construction Engineering and MS in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University.

Mr. Charter is a licensed journeyman sheet metal worker. Brandon brings 12 years’ experience to our TAB and functional performance testing team. His experience in the sheet metal field includes detailing, inputting, and managing mission critical projects. He has the hands-on field experience necessary to verify proper installation and testing of HVAC systems. Brandon is a Testing, Adjusting and Balancing Bureau Certified TAB Technician.

Kit Cartwright

Kit Cartwright

Energy Engineer, CEM

Kit has over 18 years of experience in the building sciences industry. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Kit started in the industry as an outside sales engineer where he worked with mechanical contractors and engineers to design and implement high-efficiency HVAC systems. In 2009, he switched to a new opportunity – Energy Engineering. As an Energy Engineer, Kit helped building owners reduce energy and operating costs, improve indoor comfort, and bring old buildings into the 21st century. Kit will continue his mission at SystemWorks, serving building owners by making buildings better while maximizing energy-based incentives. Kit is a Certified Energy Manager.

Kaleb Chase

Kaleb Chase

TAB Technician

Kaleb was a finish carpenter for three years before joining the SystemWorks team. Finish carpentry taught Kaleb diligence and integrity, as well as helping him acquire an eye for detail. Kaleb applies these attributes to his work on a daily basis. Kaleb currently preforms air and hydronic system testing for our commissioning and facility analyst work.
