Andrew is a Professional Engineer and BCxA Certified Commissioning Professional. He graduated from the University of Iowa with his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on Energy Systems and the Environment. Andrew works on both Commissioning and Retro-Commissioning projects, performing design reviews, site visits, functional testing, and trend data analysis. He also helps clients achieve LEED Certification for Existing Buildings.

Rick Boozell, Principal

CCP, LEED AP BD+C, TABB Certified Supervisor

Rick has over 24 years experience in the mechanical and control industry. He successfully completed the application and testing process administered by the Building Commissioning Association to become a Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP). Rick has obtained his LEED AP BD+C credential through the U.S. Green Building Council. He is also a Certified Commissioning Supervisor and a Certified Testing, Adjusting & Balancing Supervisor through the Testing, Adjusting and Balancing Bureau. In May of 2019, Rick also received his Infection Control Awareness Certificate and TABB Certified Fire and Smoke Damper Supervisor Certificate from the annual ICB/TABB Conference in Seattle, Washington. Rick brings a wealth of knowledge in commissioning, retro-commissioning, building automation systems and MEP systems for office buildings, universities, laboratories, and health care facilities.

Dennis has over 35 years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician specializing in programming and installation of HVAC controls. As a Building Automation Project Manager, Dennis led the programming and commissioning of Century Links’ 10th and High complex in downtown Des Moines. Dennis has a deep understanding of electrical systems, and for the past twenty years his focus has been on electrical system installation and control integration. Dennis has is A.A.S. Degree in High Tech Electronics. Dennis is currently commisssioning Farm Bureau North & West Building Improvement, Iowa City Community School District West High School, Linn County Public Health, and several other area projects.

Aaron Brace

Aaron has over 14 years of work experience in different roles that include mechanical construction, engineering, and commissioning. He is an Iowa State engineering graduate and obtained his Certified Commissioning Professional certification through the BCxA. Aaron has extensive knowledge of various system designs and system controls. Aaron has lead both new building and existing building commissioning efforts for projects large and small. Project history includes campus utility plants, medical, laboratory, education, and mission critical. Project designs included chilled water, heating water, geothermal water, steam, variable refrigerant, and various air distribution systems including operating rooms and natatoriums.

Garry Caldbeck is the owner of SystemWorks. He has over 41 years experience in the mechanical and control industry. Garry attended Grandview College and Des Moines Area Community College where he received an A.A. Degree in HVAC. He holds master licenses issued by the State of Iowa in the four disciplines of HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing and Hydronics. Mr. Hemmen brings over 24 years of experience in the construction industry to our Commissioning Team. Greg conducts quality assurance site visits and inspections on new construction and renovation projects. He inspects the work of multiple contractors for compliance with the specifications, drawings and code requirements and ensures the correction of deficiencies. As a Field Project Manager, Greg used a CAD-based project management technique to verify design, review shop drawings, procure job materials, and incorporate design changes in real time. Greg received his BS in Construction Engineering and MS in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University.

AIA, PE, BECxP Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider

Karl’s interest in building enclosures grows from the belief that we can collectively improve the building’s overall performance and sustainability by focusing on the design and construction of the enclosure. He has provided education, design assistance, and analysis to colleagues both internal to the organizations he has been part of (e.g. 2004 presentation on Daylighting, 2013 presentation on NFPA 285) as well as the design community as a whole (e.g. AIA IA 2011 presentation on Hygrothermal Analysis, 2015 presentation to PCI on Commissioning and Energy Modeling). He has been a member of the National Institute of Building Sciences since 2012 and participated in the Building Enclosure Science and Technology symposiums since their start in the US in 2008.

Jake Lawson

Mr. Lawson is a journeyman sheet metal worker and TABB Certified Technician. Jake brings seven years’ experience in the sheet metal field as well as a background in HVAC/R service and maintenance. Jake has worked on both pneumatic and DDC systems, and has a strong mechanical aptitude. Over his career, Jake has worked in some of Des Moines’ most well known buildings, fabricating duct work, setting up systems, and establishing pressure differentials for clean holds and isolation rooms. In addition to his Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Program, Jake attended Vatterott College and received his HVAC/R Maintenance Technician Certificate. In May of 2019, Jake also recieved his Infection Control Awareness Certificate from the annual ICB/TABB Conference in Seattle, Washington.

Mr. May is a licensed journeyman sheet metal worker and TABB Certified Technician. Tyler brings 15 years’ experience to our TAB and functional performance testing team. His experience in the sheet metal field includes working as a field foreman where he managed his own projects, working directly alongside engineers installing, modifying and setting up dust collection systems. He has the hands-on field experience necessary to verify proper installation and testing of HVAC systems. In May of 2019, Tyler also recieved his Infection Control Awareness Certificate from the annual ICB/TABB Conference in Seattle, Washington.

Mechanical Engineer

Matt graduated from Iowa State University with his BS in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in HVAC Systems. Matt's primary focus at SystemWorks is commissioning new construction and renovation projects for K-12 educational facilities, office buildings, warehouses to government facilities. He has been responsible for commissioning projects with a multitude of scopes ranging from IECC 2015, enhanced commissioning and LEED v.4. Matt’s project references include: Des Moines City Hall Renovations, FDCSD Duncombe Elementary, Bowman Fine Arts Center, Lil’ Drug Store Products, several projects for Principal Financial Group and Krause Gateway Center.

Grant is a senior at the University of Northern Iowa studying Environmental Science. After completing an internship last fall in Northern California for an environmental agency he joined the SystemWorks team in a co-op capacity. He assists both commissioning agents and TAB technicians with work on project sites and in-house. Grant has been instrumental with the deployment of new technology software tools used in the commissioning process.

Keith Olberding

Mr. Olberding is a Certified Commissioning Professional with over 30 years of experience in the controls field. His specialties include Johnson Controls, Honeywell and Trane controls. His knowledge of building mechanical and control systems allows him to understand and communicate on the same level as the control contractor. Keith is currently commissioning the Manchester Regional Medical Center-Phase 1B, Grinnell Humanities and Social Studies Complex, and several projects at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Mr. Vande Kamp has over 18 years experience in the HVAC industry. He holds a journeyman HVAC license issued by the State of Iowa. John currently performs air and hydronic system testing as needed for our commissioning and facility analysis work. He is experienced with Phoenix lab control systems, preparation of commissioning plans, constructions checklists, functional performance tests, and site visit reports. John is a Testing, Adjusting and Balancing Bureau Certified TABB Technician.
