HVAC Commissioning Technician/Engineer

 

Commissioning is a quality assurance process focused on delivering a well-designed, well-constructed, fully functional and high performing building. The preferred candidate has practical, hands-on, experience with commercial building HVAC, electrical, or building automation systems, as an engineer, designer, programmer or installer. Our team has a broad range of backgrounds, which is one of our strengths.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and manage multiple commissioning (Cx) projects from award through acceptance/occupancy, while maintaining customer satisfaction, quality, schedule and project budget.
  • Reviewing mechanical & electrical details and specifications and providing input during the design phase
  • Performing on-site reviews of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems during installation
  • Writing and performing functional test procedures
  • Preparing technical reports and documentation
  • Establishing strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers and contractors
  • Quality of work and attention to detail are of the highest importance

 

Qualifications

 

  • Experience in the design, installation or start-up of HVAC, electrical, life safety, building automation, lighting, or other building systems.
  • BS in Engineering, Certified Energy Manager, or a Commissioning Certification is a plus
  • Understanding of local codes and applicable standards (ASTM, ACI, NIBS, etc.)
  • Highly motivated to learn more about new HVAC technology and systems.
  • Proficient with technical writing and Excel

Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider (BECxP)

SystemWorks is looking to grow our Building Enclosure Commissioning Team with an industry professional who has a passion for building science. This is a unique role, and a great fit for an Architect, Construction Engineer, Designer, or Builder looking for a new perspective in the construction field.

This person will be responsible for applying the commissioning (quality assurance) process to the design and construction of a building’s exterior enclosure. Systems in the BECxP’s scope of work include, but are not limited to, below-grade waterproofing, curtainwall systems, rain screens, flashing and architectural sheet metal, roofing, glazing, air and vapor barriers, and spray foam insulation.

A working knowledge of the design and installation of these envelope systems is required. We are seeking an individual who will apply their knowledge and skills to the commissioning process. Training and certification opportunities will be provided to develop a well-rounded BECxP.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing architectural details and specifications and providing input during the design phase
  • Performing on-site reviews on all types of envelope systems during construction
  • Witnessing and performing various durability tests on envelope assemblies
  • Investigating enclosure failures in existing buildings
  • Quality of work and attention to detail are of the highest importance

Qualifications

  • Experience in the design and construction of exterior wall and roof construction, through all phases of a project including but not limited to design development, shop drawings, mock-ups, and performing/witnessing on-site testing
  • Passion for, and knowledge of, Building Science design theories/concepts
  • Understanding of local codes and applicable standards (ASTM, ACI, NIBS, etc.)
  • Commercial Building Design or Construction Experience: 3 years (Preferred)

Testing, Adjusting & Balancing (TAB) Technician

SystemWorks is an independent, third-party TAB and Commissioning provider based in West Des Moines.  SystemWorks strives to foster long-term working relationships with building owners, architects, engineers, contractors and employees.

Our TAB Technicians set up commercial HVAC systems, ranging from packaged air handling equipment to major central plants, data centers, hospitals and surgery suites.  Training and certification opportunities will be provided to develop a well-rounded TAB Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans and shop drawings
  • Perform Air and Water Balancing of commercial mechanical equipment, (air handling units, VAV boxes, pumps, energy recovery units, etc.)
  • Perform Duct Leakage and Air Handling Unit Leakage tests
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation
  • Work in a variety of building types ranging from higher education, production facilities, laboratories, medical facilities, office buildings, and more. Our client base is primarily in central Iowa, and we do travel regionally for specific clients. Overnight travel will be required for this position.

Qualifications

  • An HVAC background is preferred; candidates with experience in a trade as well as those just getting started will be considered
  • Strong interest in mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Math skills including, proportions, ratios and basic algebra
  • Ability to independently manage time and ability to perform under limited supervision
